Codes and conventions:

• capture audiences attention as quickly as possible
• the central question must be posed at the start
• quick snippets of interviews with good responses
• incidental music - soundtrack must not be louder than the voices
• titles need to burst onto the screen

Actuality- filming real events as they happen
Fly on the wall- filming real people as they do real things focusing on their lives
Voice over- narration of what the programmes on
Graphics- documentaries often use graphics with written text, maps, drawings, photos, banners etc
Interviews- views from an expert
Vox pop- interview with random people
Talking head- someone talking directly to the camera (presenter)
Music- should not be louder than the voices
