Audience feedback summary
Audience feedback summary
Question 1) How would you
rate the success of the production in terms of following codes and conventions
of a game advert?
Excellent – Good – Average – Poor – Very Poor
100% of our audience gave us an ‘excellent’
for this question after viewing both our adverts and our print artifacts. This
clearly shows the success and professionalism of our project.
Question 2) From the
evidence you have seen on the blog, how well planned was the production?
Excellent 1 2
3 4 5 Poor
Once again 100% of our audience gave us
either a 1 or a 2 for this question with 60% giving us a 1 for excellent and
the remaining 40% giving us a 2 for just below excellent. This shows a small
degree of improvement that we could try and take into account if we were to do
the project again.
Question 3) Would you say
the production showed evidence of: No Imagination, Some Imagination, Little
Imagination or High Imagination & Creative Flair
85% of our responses said that we used high
imagination and creative flair within our production. The other 15% gave us the
next highest answer saying we used some imagination; this was probably because
our game cover looked very similar to the existing game covers. We followed the
conventions very closely which is why it looks the same but we did this to try
and make the cover more recognizable for the audience.
Question 4) The following
refers to the technical aspects of the piece. Please rate the following on a
scale of one to five (1 being excellent, 5 being poor)
Shot composition,
Mise-en-scene, Editing, Sound and music, Fonts and text.
60% of our responses gave us a combination
of 1’s and 2’s for this question, this was very promising as it was a very
positive overview of all the aspects of our project. 30% gave us a combination
of 2’s and 3’s and although this was lower than the first 60% it was still
pleasing as it was still fairly positive and also gave us a target to improve
for our next production. The final 10% of the responses gave us a combination
of 1’s, 2’s and 3’s which was also still pleasing as the majority were still
all above ‘good’ on the scale.
Question 5) How could the
production be improved?
The main consensus of our responses said
that we could have left our information on the screen for longer to let the
audience have more of a chance to read it. We left it on for the short time we
did because it was the copyright information, we didn’t think many people would
want to read it thoroughly but we had to put it in for legal reasons. Another improvement was that we could have
been more unique and less like other games, we chose to make our covers similar
to that of a normal game advert to make it recognizable to the audience
therefore making the game more popular.
Question 6) How well do
the print artifacts tie in to the main production?
This was probably the most positive
response out of the entire questionnaire as we received comments like ‘the game
cover looks real’ ‘brilliant’ and ‘like a new released game!’.100% of the
audience said positive comments about our print artifacts, which was pleasing
as we spent a lot of time creating them.

How we made our print artefacts
We created both of our print artifacts using a combination of Adobe Fireworks CS5, Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Microsoft Word. We used these three programs as they each have varying degrees of both professionalism but also ease of use.
With the front of our game cover we chose to follow the codes and conventions created by the previous FIFA games made by EA Sports. This involved using pictures of previous players with a background of a stadium, we opted for Alan Shearer, Pele and Zinadine Zidane. Shearer is in the centre of the three characters therefore he is portrayed as the main character through the juxtaposition on the cover, we chose him to be the main character because he is the leading all time top goal scorer in the English Premier League, a league that is considered to be the best in the world, giving him legendary status. Pele is positioned on the right hand side of our cover we chose to put him on the front of our game because he is from an earlier generation to Shearer which shows the wide range of players and era's our game will cover. On top of this Pele has won the most World Cup Championships out of any footballer in history with a record of three tournaments, the 1958,1962 and the 1970 tournaments, in his club career he scored 620 goals in 661 appearances for Santos and the New York Cosmos. The reason we did not place Pele in the centre of the cover, despite his amazing history is because the game will be originally sold in England, to gain the attention of the British public we chose an English player that is easily identified. On the other side of Shearer we chose Zidane, Zidane is one of the most famous and recognisable players hence why we used him to complete the front cover. He is famous for his incredible goals he scored for Bordeaux, Juventus and most famously Real Madrid. Some of the public may remember him for the famous red card he received in the 2006 World Cup Final. This completes a world wide line up for our front cover as we have covered England, Europe and South America.
On the back cover for our game box we decided to once again follow the codes and conventions traditionally used by EA Sports with the layout of the text, we based our layout on the well known game FIFA 12 so it would be easily recognised and associated with the FIFA brand by our audience. Once again using Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks we created our 'tile like' sequence for the top of our game that features Maradona, Cruyff and Maldini, all legendary players for their respective clubs and countries. Above this we made a text box describing the game play, completely made up by Josh on Microsoft Word. Surrounding these pictures and text we have both quotes our 'strapline' quote for the game "create your own legend" which refers to our game idea that you are able to create your own player who will play alongside other 'legendary' players from the past therefore creating a legendary status for you and your player. Next to this we have a quote that reviews our game, taken from 'Gamespot', this is to give our cover more appeal when people go to buy it, if it has a review from a well known and trusted gaming website then they will be more inclined to buy it. Finally, to complete the cover we have a picture of Eric Cantona, a well known Manchester Utd 'legend' scoring 64 goals in 143 appearances for the club and also featuring in the French national team between 1987 and 1995, on top of this he features in FIFA's 100 greatest living footballers list, it was due to these honours that we thought he would be suitable to be placed on our cover. Finally with the spine of our game cover we decided to keep it very simple, following the codes and conventions set by EA with the previous games. We used 'www.dafont.com' to source the same font used by EA to make our product both more realistic and more recognisable to a customer. We did this by using Adobe Fireworks to rotate the 'Xbox 360' logo vertically, once we had imported the text from 'www.dafont.com' it was white, this wouldn't have worked as our background is white so we had to change the format of the text to a JPEG image then import it into Adobe Photoshop as a picture file.

Our magazine advert was made in a similar way to our game cover, still using a combination of Adobe Fireworks CS5, Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Microsoft Word. Unlike the game cover we had no template to go from, therefore we decided to get a background of a football stadium, which we edited and made the colours brighter on Photoshop, we put various different 'legendary' players on the same pitch. We did this by using both Photoshop and Fireworks, we chose to put David Beckham, Alan Shearer, Diago Maradona and Marco Van Basten, all of which are legends from different era's, on the same football pitch. This was done to represent the different ages and era's that can be found within our game play. We did audience research and found out that people didn't want to focus to closely on one specific generation as this would be too similar to the traditional 'FIFA' games released annually already, this lead us to use lots of era's ranging from the 1970's with Maradona to the more recent career of Alan Shearer. Alan Shearer is seen to be challenging for a header with an opposition player, we decided to make the opposition player a silhouette, this was to link with our slogans of 'create your own legend' and as seen on this particular advert, 'step into your legend's shadow', suggesting that the silhouette is you as a player. Once we had it as a picture file in Photoshop we were able to change the contrast and brightness ratios to make it black. All this can be seen below with a copy of our magazine advert.

Task 8 - Final Proposal
1. Working title
Fifa Legends
2. Channel for broadcast
ITV - Has lots of viewers during prime time periods. This will
help us achieve larger audiences
Sky Sports - It links with our target audience, and it shows live
football linking with Fifa legends.
3. Target Audience
Age: Teenagers, young adults
Social Class: C1, C2 and D - This is because the game will cost
near to £50 so if we target this particular class, the working class, they will
be able to afford the game.
Gender: Male and female but predominantly male
Ethnicity: Everyone as it is a worldwide game
4.Genre
Live action sports game.
Idea 1
David Beckham's free kick against Greece.
Our first idea is to superimpose the footage we have when Beckham
scored a free kick against Greece. We will try recreate the goal he scored by
using our own footage we have recorded and merge it with the actual footage of
the goal. We will use this to create the idea of creating your own legend which
subsequently links with the title of the game which is Fifa Legends. The
purpose of recreating the goal is to show the ability of the 'legend' and
combine it with the dreams of the nation after this specific event. The whole
nation wanted to be like David Beckham once he had scored the goal against
Greece and this reiterates the legend status Beckham has achieved and
ultimately this is why we have chosen him for our base idea for our project.
We will aim to merge the clips so that we can cut bits of each
clip so it fits accordingly into the timeline and edit both clips to give
the impression that the tempo and speed is increasing when our character and
David Beckham actually kick the ball. We will then aim to combine Beckham's
real celebration with our characters celebration to complete the advert.
Idea 2
Wayne Rooney and Gerard Pique advert
For the second part to our game advert we will create a spoof of
the original Fifa advert which includes Wayne Rooney and Gerard Pique playing
against each other on Fifa 12. We will have two people and create masks of
Rooney and Pique which they will wear for the filming. The two people we use to
mimic Rooney and Pique will have to wear roughly the same clothes as it a spoof
of the original. We will do the appropriate voice overs for Rooney and Pique so
the audience will still understand what we aim to create. We will use a range
of camera shots such as long shots, close ups and match on action to make the
film look more interesting.
In this second advert we will include a logo and our catchphrase
for 'Fifa Legends' so it looks professional and also meets the conventional
code for a game advert. We will also include a good range of sound to the
advert so it sounds similar to the original Fifa advert. This is important
because if we are to try and mimic the original advert and create a successful spoof,
then we need to get the camera angles, sound and editing spot on.
In the clip we need to add a small section of
the gameplay so it adds to the evidence that we are advertising our
game. We can do this by showing it on a TV screen and film an over the shoulder
shot to show Rooney and Pique actually playing the game. This would help with
the purpose of the advert as the aim is to sell as many copies of the game as
possible. If the audience see's two of the biggest football icons playing our
game, then the audience will mirror them, and subsequently our
game advert will be successful.

Task 7 - Role Allocation
Ash - Editing, we chose Ash to be the editor for our production because of the skills he gained from last years production. Out of the three of us he would be the best for this role so to save time and make the production more professional Ash was chosen.
Dan - Camera person, again we allocated this role because of the skills gained from last year, this enables us to make our production more proficient. I am in charge of filming the entire production to then bring back to Ash to edit into the final piece.
Josh - Print artifacts, Josh has to create all of our print artifacts for our production, this includes a magazine advert of our game and the entire game cover. Josh was chosen for this role as he has previous knowledge of editing programs such as Adobe Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop.

Summary:
To summarise our findings we found out that FIFA is the most popular football game which is why we decided to base our game with the name 'Fifa' so it would be more recognizable and would therefore sell more, making more money. Fifa is an established brand within the games industry which would suggest why it got the most votes on our survey. We would focus on the game play of our game which is why we decided to include features like online modes, manager modes, create your own player, making your own legends team and career modes. We decided this as our results showed us that 90% of our audience were more concerned with the game play of the game rather than the graphics. Our game would cost between £30 and £40, this is around the average for a new game release and our results show this is the price range people would be prepared to pay. According to our results 90% of people say the cover for our game should contain players that are featured in the gameplay, therefore we will be using 2 or 3 players from the game to feature on the front of our game. When asked about the music for the game, our audience returned with mixed results, the majority wanted Rap and R&B, with some opting for rock or just a general mixture of music. This was very helpful to us and left us with many different options to use various different types of music within our game and its adverts.
The age rating for our game was 3+, this was made apparent from our survey as 50% opted for this age bracket, this could be to make the game open to a large range of people but at the same time the game has little to no violence and the only language used will be the commentary so it is very normal day to day vocabulary.Within our questionnaire we asked what legends should we put in the game, we got a wide range of results but the common players that came up are shown in the results section above. There was a mixed result for what features we should put in the game out of 'build your own legend', 'real life scenarios', 'legend XI' and 'build your own dream team' so due to this mixed response and because there was no out right favourite we will probably put most if not all of these features in the game to please everyone. This was similar to the results we got for the colour schemes, there was no favourite colour scheme, the Fifa colour scheme was the favourite which was to be expected but there was still some votes for black, red and white. This could have been because lots of teams play in these colours so they are very recognisable to an audience.
Finally we asked which 'legendary teams' should be included seen as the title is 'Fifa Legends'. We got similar results to that of the player related question, lots of different suggestions were put forward but the common themes surrounded Spain's current team, Brazil 1970’s team, the Barcelona team of 2011 and the England 1966 world cup winning team. This was a very good response as it was very varied and not just focused on either old teams or recent teams.
